The launch of a new brand identity is no small task. It requires a broad perspective alongside an eye for perfection. When our client recently launched its new logo and identity toolkit, we were tasked with the daunting job of translating all aspects of the new identity to every application our clients used.

Further complicating the effort was the existence of multiple subsidiaries, each with its own approach to the brand’s re-launch. While the holding company held all the identity toolkit cards, the subs were free to implement on their own terms.

THE RESULT

The result is a customized, yet consistent brand platform for each of the subsidiaries, with unique transformations of the tools – from color palette to imagery to editorial. Our decades of training in the classic work of brand platform implementation made this a project perfectly suited to our skills.

So, how does a brand inspire many audiences through fewer channels and a simple message?

A popular and prolific sport-optics manufacturer contacted C&C to help understand how to connect all the audiences across 6 product categories under one inspiring theme, which could also be channeled through one new Instagram account.

Could US outdoor enthusiasts who like anything from archery, astronomy, golfing, and hiking to hunting, biking, boating, and camping all have resonating recreational desires in common? — the answer was ‘yes’.

Ten audience interviews, five regional team interviews, seven competitors’ digital footprints, thousands of keywords, hundreds of hashtags, heaps of social proof, and regional sales data all led us to an elegant solution — C&C was able to map all the product categories to a wide variety of audiences under one recurring theme – to get away – to be in a place where daily routines and realities don’t exist, but a connection to the outdoors does.

Furthermore, C&C would reveal that these audiences are getting away to find a connection to nature which is deeply personal, sometimes mystical, and that sentiment included upland game hunters. Part of the C&C challenge was demonstrating, carefully, to an overseas parent company that US upland game hunters are a fertile nuanced audience.

THE RESULTS

C&C presented one audience-unifying brand communication strategy that would be optimal on Instagram. A generalized solution with real legs if done right.

In the process, we found a fruitful bonus insight worth considering on its own. This very specific audience-to-product-to-channel connection had big potential — and no one saw it coming. Sometimes, tactical specificity can open a fresh new audience.
